Technology Today - December 2015 - the CES Preview
By Robert Sanborn

I don't know about you but CES 2016, the show previously known as the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas, is to me like a kid waiting for Christmas. You get a hint of what will be out there but till you see it, you really don't know what is under the tree. But unlike Christmas, when you open the package, there might be nothing there as we do see a lot of new things from startups that just don't make it. This year, cloud funding has really taken off and the press releases are flooding the mail box. So, here is a sampling of what caught my eye.

This is the traveler's padlock that will blow away the competetion. About the size of a quarter, it is a lock that you don't need a key, no numbers to remember, and no code; as long as you have your smartphone with you.

Bevel Bevel, the world’s first attachment capable of capturing real 3D photographs on any smartphone or tablet by Matter and Form is now ready to be debuted at CES! Bevel has been named a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Digital Imaging category. Other attachments create the illusion of 3D by enhancing the depth of an image, but fail to capture a file that you can actually use. Bevel uses an eye safe laser light, and the existing camera on your Android or IOS device, to take photographs in a whole new dimension. go to Bevel's website

·       RemoteLync Camera: a Wi-Fi-enabled, cord-free, hub-free camera powered by a rechargeable batter that lasts up to three months on a single charge; its magnetic base enables the camera to be installed nearly anywhere and will adjust to almost any angle; immediately records video upon sending motion and sends users an alert via free app on their mobile devices; users can also request video clips from five to 30 seconds on demand.

D-Vine The D-vine team will demo the product as their first introduction to the US market. In a nutshell, D-Vine allows you to enjoy a glass of wine "a la carte" at home, with perfect temperature and aeration! In fact, a lot of wine lovers don't like the same wine. It is also very difficult to aerate and serve wine at the right temperature, and according to world's best Sommelier, it can count up to 50% of the quality of the wine. If this is not done well, taste and aromas can be hidden or lost. Go to the website.

Consumers have been able to conveniently charge their mobile phones away from a wall outlet for years. Starting with car adapters and evolving to battery banks as small as credit cards mobile charging has advanced over the years, but until now no one has been able to create a feasible, daily mobile charging solution for laptops.

myCharge will be debuting the first easily portable laptop charging solution at CES 2016. The new Razor Ultra will be capable of charging USB-C laptops from a zero power, dead battery to a full one hundred percent charge. And, the device is no bigger than the palm of your hand and weighs just around a pound.  Website

And I haven't even gotten into the tons of health and fitness things you will also find at CES. So you can see, I am really looking forward to heading out of the snow and cold here and into the warm glow of all things electronic at CES. Happy New Year!

More from CES later when I get back.
